Image of the Month • April 2009
The 360° VR panorama of April 2009 brings us near Massarosa on Massaciuccoli's Lake in the province of Lucca. The lake is famous for having hosted the composer Giacomo Puccini who lived for a long time in a beautiful villa on the lake in a place that today in his honor is called Torre del Lago Puccini, a fraction of Viareggio. The lake and the area of ditches and canals is an important site for all migratory birds en route to the hot countries. For this reason is born the protected oasis of LIPU. This reserve is one of the most important ornithological sites in Italy. During 120 years of research, observations and studies, at least 300 different species of birds both migratory and geographically stable have been catalogued and some of them are not necessarily connected to wet and marshy places.
