Mascagni Terrace • Livorno

mascagni terrace map

This elegant Terrace overlooking the sea affords splendid views of the islands of the Tuscan Archipelago. It dates from the 1920s and was named after the celebrated Livornese Composer Pietro Mascagni in 1945. The Terrace and the characteristic bars and cafés along the promenade are popular on summer evenings.

The large open area that forms the terrace is bounded towards the sea by a sinuous and elegant balustrade made of 4100 concrete pillars, while the floor consists of 34800 black and white tiles. Despite the period in which it was designed it isn't affected by the stylistic dictates of the fascist regime.
