Pisa Virtual Tour

The first destination for tourists who wants to visit Pisa is, without doubt, the postcard of the Miracles Square as if the city of Galileo was limited, like any village, to a lawn, to the Baptistery, to the Duomo, to the Leaning Tower and to the Cemetery. To the careful tourists Pisa offers even more: the old town, with its Lungarno framed by the many historic buildings, as well as the impressive churches. On Lungarno Sonnino, bordered by tall trees, with its Pisan Romanesque facade, stands the church of San Paolo Ripa d'Arno.

On Lungarno Gambacorti stands the little church of the Santa Maria della Spina, who has a particular history: the Church was in fact built by Gualandi family in 1230 on the bank of the Arno, but due to continuous flooding of the river, the foundations were affected by the gradual erosion and thus, in 1871, the church was “transferred” in its present location. The beauty of the Lungarni is also practice: the bridges not only connect the two sides of the city, but allow a point of view from time to time different and fascinating.

The good position of the Solferino Bridge, which connects the Lungarno Sonnino with the Lungarno Simonelli, allows an unrestricted view of the river, with the look that embraces the Church “della Spina”.

In the centre of the city there are many squares among which the most exciting in size and importance is the Piazza dei Cavalieri, with the Palazzo della Carovana, home of the Scuola Normale of Pisa. The Palace has medieval origin and was rebuilt by Giorgio Vasari, who designed for the facade the allegorical figures, the zodiacal signs; impressive the double-ramp marble staircase.

The last visit, at dusk, bring back the the romantic tourist to admire the magic of the first lights that are lit to illuminate the paths that lead to the Baptistery, the Cathedral, the Leaning Tower, the Cemetery, and gently caress the soft grass of the Miracles Square
